About 200,000 gathered at Marina Bay on Saturday to mark Singapore’s 43rd birthday.

The celebrations started with our own teenage icon's Nathan Hartono performing the opening song at the NDP titled "Where I Belong".

It didn't take long for the weather to change from clear blue skies to bits of drizzle. But still, the crowd are energetic and the atmosphere was great!

The Singapore Air Force’s elite Black Knights participated in this year’s NDP for the first time.

The six F16 Fighting Falcons greeted spectators at Marina Bay with their electrifying entrance and they certainly left a mark in the sky for all to see.

Flying at some 2,000 km/hr, over the business hub area, a mistake will prove too costly.

The gallery can sit about 30,000 people, about half the size of National Stadium. But about 150,000 others also caught a glimpse of the parade from the waterfront.

For me i caught the action at home as it was raining and cos i have no tickets, but still i'm not to impress with this year's performance..

NDP is due next week and i'm really excited. Are you? And i really like the english version of the theme song this year!

Have you seen a star,
One that guides you no matter where you are?
However vast the sky may be
Or dark it seems
You can be sure, it’s always there for you and me

Have you heard a song,
One that moved you, one that made you sing along?
Your dreams and hopes will all come true
If you believe that every vision begins with you.

Shine for Singapore
This is your song
Deep inside your heart where it belongs
It’ll always stay, strive for your goals.
You will achieve with visions so bold.

Shine for Singapore
This is our song
Reach out for the sky, far and beyond
As one we’ll stand, we’re Singapore
It’s here that we belong

Have you heard a song,
One that moved you, one that made you sing along?
Your dreams and hopes will all come true
If you believe that every vision begins with you.

Nowhere I‘d rather be, this is home to me
This star shines strong and free

Shine for Singapore
This is your song
Deep inside your heart where it belongs
It’ll always stay, strive for your goals.
You will achieve with visions so bold.

Shine for Singapore
This is our song
Reach out for the sky, far and beyond
As one we’ll stand, we’re Singapore
It’s here that we belong

How To Stop Procrastinating

Photobucket

As exams are around the corner, many are trying their best to study and reach the finish line - Final Year Exams.
But there are some that might give up near the finishing line, thus i hope students will not give up so easily and say "next time then study", but rather say "I will study now!"

1. Visualize far and put it in writing. Review your goal frequently. Your goal should be specific, realistic and able to achieve. There should be a time limit attach as well.

2. Try to do your planning at the same time every day. Use this time to review past accomplishments as well as future things to do.

3. Write out a To Do list every day. Include items that can be completed or still pending to do.

4. Separate your To Do list into A, B and C priorities. "A" items are important to your long term success, "B" may be urgent but not as important and "C" are those that would be nice to do if you have the time.

5. Start with the A items. Don't work on a C just because it's easy to do. Also, break your A items into small segment, so they're easy to accomplish.

6. Strike off items as you complete them to give yourself a sense of accomplishment!

7. Don't jam your day full of activities. Leave time for emergencies, special opportunities and thinking time.

8. Be your own manager. Ask yourself if you have met your goals, and what must you change in your plan to make you achieve them.

9. Do it now, don't procrastinate. Human tends to leave things done by saying "next time".

10. Always plan time for balance; include family, fitness, recreation and social activities.

Conduct a time study to see how you're doing and where the opportunities for improvement lies. Many people are only able to spend one quarter of their time on top priority activities. Moving this up to one third of the week means almost 4 more hours per week on key activities.

Managing stress

Stress symptoms include mental, social, and physical. Just to name afew symptoms such as exhaustion, loss of appetite and headaches. Feelings of frustration may accompany stress as well.

If you feel that stress is affecting your studies, do something that will calm your mind.

Just a few pointers that i can conjure up, hopefully able to help u guys destress since exams are soon approaching :)

Remove yourself from the stressful situation
Give yourself a break if you think u reached your limit. Continue after you're refresh and it'll more effective.

Don't sweat the small stuff
Try to prioritize a few important things and let the rest slide.

Get enough sleep
Many of us like to have late nights. So lack of rest just aggravates stress.

Set realistic goals for yourself
Giving yourself too much of a pressure is a major cause, therefore be realistic and slowly work your way up. :)

Learn how to best relax yourself
Meditation and breathing exercises have been proven to be very effective in controlling stress. Practice clearing your mind of disturbing thoughts.

Work off stress
with physical activity, whether it's sports related or hanging out with friends, everyone needs a rest!

Going with stress
If you can't fight what's bothering you and you can't flee from it, flow with it and try to use it in a productive way

Most importantly, if stress is putting you in a bad state or affecting your life, you can alternatively talk it out with your good friends or maybe seek advice from your teachers :)

Hopefully this mini guide do help u guys in being less stress :)

Jasper's Testimonial

Mr Leonard tutored me in elementary mathematics (E.Maths) for about 4 months, just before my O Levels when I was in secondary 4. His style of teaching was quite different, in the sense that he was somewhat more strict and pushed me to do more, although there was a balance of humor and jokes in between so as to lighten up the atmosphere and that learning wouldn’t get too boring.

He used different colored pens to write and explain concepts to me, which I found very effective as the different colours were useful in helping me to notice and absorb all the information, instead of being in just 1 color all the way – as after some time the brain gets used to it and may not click and understand. It was therefore easier to remember ideas and concepts, especially by linking them to particular colour.

Eg:
If Pythagoras’Theorem was written in red, whenever I saw red color I would think of the Pythagoras’Theorem.

He has immense content knowledge, in that he knows what he is taking about and is usually able to bring it across in a way that I can understand, although there are times when I would ask him many questions and he would reply me with equally pertinent answers which did help to clarify my doubts. He is patient with me even though sometimes I asked some weird questions, he did try his best to answer them.

If there was a concept I didn’t understand, he would try to explain to me in many different ways until I finally comprehend. Then, he would drill and make me do many questions of that particular concept, so that I would be able to keep in my head and understand what I had just learnt.

I also met up with him 3 times or more a week – practice makes perfect. As the frequency of sessions meant more ‘homework’, so I also had to discipline myself to finish up the assignments. Thus, I was practicing and doing much of the same concepts, so the more I did, the more mistakes I made, which meant that I had the chance to correct them now instead of during the O Levels.

My grades did improve nevertheless, soon I found it much easier to do the Maths Ten-Year Series exam papers which he and my teachers gave me to do. Steadily, I got relatively high marks for those mock papers and it also help me to increase my confidence. He also praises his students when they deserve, which helps as it affirms them and gives more self-confidence, although he will also rebuke to correct me at times. Especially when I make a really silly or careless mistake that I shouldn’t have.

All in all, he has been a great help to me in polishing up my Mathematics, and my results jumped from a C6 to an A2 for my O Levels, which was really a lot of difference from before.
